Multi-Port Ball Valves 3-Way, 4-Way, and 5-Way

Multi-port ball valves come in 3-way, 4-way, or 5-way configurations. They use full-bore balls, which means you can switch high flow rates between different pipelines.

Multi-port ball valves come in 3-way, 4-way, or 5-way configurations. They use full-bore balls, which means you can switch high flow rates between different pipelines. The 4-way and 5-way multi-port valves are true multi-port valves, with seals on each port. This makes multi-port valves perfect for flow switching applications. In some cases, you can replace up to four conventional 2-way valves with a single 4-way or 5-way ball valve, which saves on piping and fittings.

What are The Different Types of Multi-Port Ball Valves

Multi-port valves come in three configurations: 3-way, 4-way, and 5-way. Each type has different port options and flow paths, which makes them suitable for different applications. Let’s take a close look at each type of ball valve.

3-Way Ball Valve

A 3-way ball valve has three ports for fluid or gas flow. It has a metal ball with internal passages that align with the ports to direct the flow. The ball rotates inside the valve body, allowing the media to move from one port to another, controlling the flow direction. You can operate this mechanism manually or automatically to control the media flow within different industrial systems.

Three-way ball valves are perfect for applications where you have multiple media sources or you need to divert media in two directions. Depending on the configuration, the three ports can be one outlet with two inlets or one inlet with two outlets.

You can operate three-way ball valves manually or automate them with electric or pneumatic actuators. They come in two bore varieties: “L” and “T” ports. You can use these valves to:

Shut off flow
Switch flow between sources
Combine flows
Alternate flow destinations
Divert flow to different destinations
Split flow between two destinations
