    What is a Globe 3 Way Control Valves?

    The three-way control valve is a kind of cage-guided globe valve, which has three pipeline connections. THINKTANK produces HMD series(flow mixing type) and HTD series(flow diverting type) for industrial heavy-duty converging or diverting applications. It is designed for balanced and unbalanced trim with throttling or on/off function. Standard 3-way globe control valves are assembly with a pneumatic/piston diaphragm actuator or electric actuator, valve positioner, and air filter regulator for precise flow throttling service.

    How do three ways control valves work?

    The three-way globe control valve has three flow ports, one inlet port & two outlet ports called diverting type, two inlet ports & one outlet port called mixing type. The mixing type 3-way control valve is used to combine two fluids into a third fluid, or two same liquids at different temperatures are mixed into a fluid of the same temperature. The diverting type 3-way control valve divides a fluid into two fluids.

    According to different actuators, three-way control valves include three types: electric three-way control valve, pneumatic three-way control valve, and manual three-way control valve. Based on the structure of the valve trim, it includes two types: three-way diverting type control valve and three-way mixing type control valve.

    Model HMT and HDT series are the three ways control valves in THINKTANK. The valve model HMT is a three-way control valve for mixing service.
    The actuator employed is a multi-spring type with a small-sized, high-output diaphragm motor with a highly simplified operating mechanism. It is used for the heat control of heat converters, etc.
    The valve model HDT is a three-way control valve for diverting service.

    It has a small-sized, high-output diaphragm motor suitable for big port and high differential pressure services.

    Bellows seal bonnets are used when no leakage(less than
    1×10-6 cc/sec of helium) along the stem can be tolerated.
    They are often used when the process fluid is toxic,
    volatile, radioactive, or highly expensive. This special
    bonnet construction protects both the stem and the valve
    packing from contact with the process fluid.

    Description:
    The plug structure of the three-way control valve is designed to flow to the open. If valve plug in the valve seat that is mixing service control valve. There are two input ports and one outlet port(see Figure a, b). The valve plug is located on the outside of the valve seat that is diverting the service control valve. There is one inlet port and two outlet ports (see Figure c, d).

    Due to the three-way control valve have opening and closing operation at the same time, so three-way control valve doesn’t have air to open or air to close such type.
    • For Direct Action Mixing Service, air failure means vertical pass(B → AB). But for Reverse Action Mixing Service, air failure means the flow is a horizontal pass (A → AB)
    • For Direct Action Diverting Service, air failure means horizontal pass (AB → A). But for Reverse Action Diverting Service, air failure means the flow is a vertical pass(AB → B)
