Grease will react with gaseous or liquid oxygen and catch fire at a certain pressure and temperature. The reaction of grease with oxygen can cause combustion or explosion. Because of these potential hazards, process system design and oxygen control valve material selection are important. Oxygen-service material behavior is only one part of the careful and knowledgeable design of the handling system. Plastic gloves are required for handling oxygen valves.
