Product Overview
The THINKTANK TT-BWA42Y Series is a thermal-jacketed, balanced bellows, full-lift safety valve developed for process applications where both heat preservation and back-pressure compensation are important.
The valve incorporates a thermal insulation jacket around the process-containing body section, including the inlet and outlet flange areas, helping maintain the temperature of the process medium as it passes through the safety valve.
A balanced bellows assembly is incorporated to reduce the influence of fluctuating discharge-side back pressure on safety valve operation while also providing additional separation between the process medium and the upper spring chamber.
The TT-BWA42Y is intended for demanding applications such as polyether, ethylene, urea fertilizer and similar process units where cooling of the process medium may lead to increased viscosity, crystallization, solidification or other operational problems.

Thermal Jacket Design
The TT-BWA42Y incorporates a thermal insulation jacket around the valve body, including the process-side inlet and outlet flange areas.
The purpose of the jacket is to reduce heat loss from the process medium and maintain a more stable temperature around the valve body and flow passages.
This design is particularly useful for process fluids that may experience problems when temperature decreases, such as:
- Increased viscosity
- Crystallization
- Precipitation
- Solidification
- Deposition around the valve nozzle or seat
- Restricted flow through the valve body
Maintaining process temperature around the safety valve can therefore be important not only for normal operation but also for ensuring that the relieving flow path remains available when overpressure protection is required.
Steam Flushing and Purging Option
For special process requirements, the TT-BWA42Y can be provided with optional steam flushing or steam purging connections.
The illustrated construction includes dedicated flushing inlets associated with the jacketed body section.
Depending on the process design, these connections may be used to assist with:
- Heating the valve body
- Maintaining process temperature
- Removing deposits
- Flushing residual process medium
- Reducing the risk of crystallization or solidification
- Preparing the valve for maintenance or shutdown
The required flushing medium, pressure and connection arrangement should be confirmed for each project.

Pressure Rating and Size Range
PN16 / PN25 / PN40: DN20–DN350
PN64 / PN100: DN20–DN150
For the TT-BWA42Y thermal-jacketed safety valve, the final installation envelope should also consider the thermal jacket, steam inlet and steam purging connections, not only the main valve face-to-face and overall height dimensions.
Balanced Bellows Construction
The TT-BWA42Y incorporates a balanced bellows assembly designed to reduce the influence of variable back pressure on safety valve operating characteristics.
In conventional unbalanced spring-loaded safety valves, outlet pressure can create additional forces acting on the internal components of the valve.
Where discharge pressure varies, this may influence valve opening, closing and relieving performance.
The balanced bellows arrangement is intended to compensate for much of this pressure effect, making the valve suitable for applications involving:
- Variable back pressure
- Closed discharge systems
- Common relief headers
- Pressurized discharge piping
- Multiple safety valves connected to a shared relief manifold
The actual allowable back-pressure range should be confirmed during project-specific safety valve sizing and selection.
Bellows Isolation Function
In addition to its balancing function, the bellows provides separation between the process medium and the upper bonnet internals.
This helps isolate components such as:
- Spring
- Stem
- Spring washer
- Other bonnet internals
from direct exposure to the process medium.
This feature can be particularly useful where the process medium is corrosive, hazardous or prone to deposition.
Full-Lift Design
The TT-BWA42Y uses a full-lift safety valve configuration.
Under the general performance criteria applicable to this safety valve family:
Lift H ≥ 1/4 d₀
where:
- H = Valve lift
- d₀ = Orifice diameter
The full-lift design provides a larger available discharge area than a low-lift valve and is therefore suitable for applications requiring greater relieving capacity.
Actual relieving capacity must still be verified according to the required relief load, set pressure, relieving temperature, medium properties and back-pressure conditions.
Standard Trim Materials
The standard internal components, including the disc and seat, are manufactured from austenitic stainless steel.
The sealing surfaces are provided with Stellite hardfacing to improve resistance to:
- Wear
- Erosion
- Repeated opening and closing
- High-velocity relieving flow
- Seat damage under demanding process conditions
Final trim selection should nevertheless be reviewed against the actual medium and operating temperature.
Optional Materials for Severe Service
For corrosive and demanding process applications, optional internal materials can include:
- Urea-grade 316L stainless steel
- 0Cr25Ni6Mo3CuN
- 00Cr25Ni6Mo2N
- F51 / UNS S31803 duplex stainless steel
- F53 / UNS S32750 super duplex stainless steel
- F55 / UNS S32760 super duplex stainless steel
The appropriate material should be selected according to process chemistry, concentration, temperature, corrosion mechanism and project material specification.
Typical Applications
The TT-BWA42Y Series can be considered for:
- Urea fertilizer plants
- Polyether process units
- Ethylene process systems
- Petrochemical plants
- Chemical processing systems
- Media prone to crystallization
- High-viscosity process fluids
- Temperature-sensitive process services
- Corrosive process systems
- Closed relief systems with variable back pressure
- Heated and insulated piping systems
- Process equipment requiring steam tracing or heat preservation

Notes:
- Pk = Set pressure
- d₀ = Orifice diameter
- PN = Nominal pressure
- Actual test and performance requirements shall be confirmed according to the selected valve configuration, project specification and applicable standard.
- For the TT-BWA42Y, back pressure, process temperature and jacket operating conditions should be reviewed together during selection.
For the TT-BWA42Y Series, the full-lift criterion applies: H ≥ 1/4 d₀.
